Chandigarh is one of the union territory in India. It is also capital of two states Haryana and Punjab. As a union territory it is governed by union government and not by states. It is one of the early planned cities. It is famous internationally for its architecture and design. It is also India’s first and best planned city in India and is well known in city in north India.
PLACES TO VISIT IN CHANDIGARH
- ROCK GARDENIt is also known as Nek Chand’s Rock Garden. It is a sculpture garden. It s built of home and industrial waste and thrown-away items. It also have interlinked man-made waterfalls and have scultpures made up of scrap and other kinds of wastes like bottles, tiles, ceramic pots, electrical wastes etc.
- SUKHNA LAKE
This city also have a beautiful lake with union with nature. This lake is in the foothills of the Himalayas, Shivalik hills surrounded by lush greenery. There is a golf course on the south and rock garden on its western end. It is declared as a reserved wetland by the government of India.
- ZAKIR HUSSAIN ROSE GARDEN
It is the botanical garden with 50,000 rose bushes of 1600 different species. It was named after former president of India, Zakir Hussain. This garden has not only roses but also trees of medicinal values. It is also the venue for Annual rose festival, Rose Festival celebrated in Chandigarh in the month of February and March.
- OPEN HAND MONUMENT
It is a zoological park situated close to Zirakpur. It has large variety of birds, animals and mammals. The lion safari is the most interesting part in the zoo. Here animals are found roaming freely. The centre of attraction is the Royal Bengal Tiger.
