Good news for Idea cellular users. Finally! Idea has announced the launch of its 4G LTE services across Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The service will now be available in a total of 7 telecom service areas, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Chennai by January-end 2016. The company will roll out 4G services in three more circles by March, further touching a total of 10 circles by the end of June this year.
Airtel became the first operator to launch 4G services in Punjab, and now Idea’s live 4G signals indicates that it is fast readying its network to compete against Vodafone and Reliance, which are set to launch 4G service by 2016.
Idea will cover major cities including Indore, Bhopal and Raipur in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Firozpur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Moga and Pathankot in Punjab, and Ambala, Karnal, Hissar, Panipat, Rohtak and Sonipat in Haryana. Gwalior, Jabalpur, Jalandhar, Muktsar, Patiala, Sangrur, Charkhidadri and Pinjore will follow by the end of January 2016. Idea 4G services will expand to 84 more towns including Ambikapur, Anuppur, Bhilai, Bilaspur, Chhatarpur, Katni, Kawardha, Korba, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Rajnandgaon, Ratlam, Sagar, Satna, Sehore, Shahdol, Shivpuri, Ujjain and Vidisha by March 2016.
“By March 2016, our services will extend to 3 more key markets namely, Maharashtra & Goa, North East and Orissa, and by June 2016, Idea’s 4G footprint will cover 750 cities across 10 telecom circles,” Ambrish Jain, Deputy Managing Director, Idea Cellular said.
According to a statement released by the company, Idea has 2.7 million 4G devices and nearly 4% of its subscriber base in these 7 telecom service areas. On all India basis comparison, Idea has nearly 49.5 million customers owning 3G devices and over 6 million customers with 4G devices.
